The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, security, and development of Corps Members in the state, urging them to serve as ambassadors of unity, peace and progress.
The Executive Governor gave this assurance during the Swearing-in Ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) corps members deployed to Ondo State and their counterparts dislodged from Lagos State.
Addressing the newly sworn-in corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, Aiyedatiwa described the National Youth Service Corps as a 'beacon of national integration' which fosters cultural exchange and unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups. He urged the corps members to embrace the core values of selflessness, patriotism, and hard work as they commenced their one year mandatory national service.
While assuring them of a safe and productive service year, the Governor announced several proactive measures undertaken by the State Government, which included collaboration with security agencies to protect lives and properties as well as maintain peace across the nooks and crannies of the Sunshine State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, His Excellency, Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami, mni, disclosed that his administration has begun the payment of monthly stipends to corps members serving in public establishments in the state to further encourage their commitment to duty.
“We are committed to improving the infrastructure at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp here in Ikare-Akoko,” the Governor noted, calling on corps members to take advantage of opportunities and leave a positive impact in their host communities.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NYSC Ondo State Governing Board, represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development , Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi commended the patriotic zeal of the incoming corps members. She reminded them of their vital role in promoting peace, tolerance, and national cohesion, particularly in the face of current national challenges.
“The Orientation Course is designed to instil in you the values of teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership. You must embrace this experience with open minds and a strong sense of responsibility,” she said.
The Chairman charged the new corps members to serve with integrity, learn from their environment, embrace diversity, leave a mark of excellence and make a positive impact that would be difficult to erase.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare expressed appreciation to all dignitaries and stakeholders for their presence and unwavering support.
She further provided an overview of the orientation programme, emphasizing that all activities, including paramilitary drills, leadership training, and various lecture series, are compulsory and essential for a successful service year.
Bakare advised the Corps Members to maintain discipline and abide by all camp rules. She described the orientation camp as highly regimented but also filled with exciting moments for growth and interaction.
She reiterated the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, urging corps members to take it seriously as a potential pathway to entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The Coordinator also appealed to the State Government for additional infrastructural support, including more hostels, utility vehicles, and solar-powered boreholes.
The event featured the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to corps members by the Chief Judge of Ondo State, an act that officially marked their transition into the NYSC Scheme.
In all, 1267 corps members made up of 628 males and 639 females registered in Ondo State while 872 comprising of 285 males and 587 females registered as Lagos State dislodged members of the service corps.
NYSC ONDO INAUGURATES CAMP COURT, CORPS CAMP DIRECTORS
In a bid to enhance discipline, inclusivity, and smooth administration during the ongoing 2025 Batch 'A' (Stream 1) orientation course, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, on Saturday, inaugurated the Camp Court and Corps Camp Directors at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the camp’s Multipurpose hall, amidst an atmosphere of reverence and renewed commitment, defined the NYSC’s unwavering dedication to maintaining high standards of discipline, ensuring corps members' welfare and promoting effective camp management.
In accordance with the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws, the State Coordinator officially instituted the Camp Court, a disciplinary body tasked with handling infractions committed by corps members during the orientation exercise.
The Camp Court is chaired by the Camp Director and comprises the Camp Commandant, Resident Officer 1 (RO1 ), Head of Police, Head of Man ‘O War, two Corps Lawyers, and two Platoon Leaders as members. The terms of reference for the Camp Court include investigating and adjudicating cases of misconduct, thereby reinforcing discipline and upholding the integrity of the Scheme within the camp.
Speaking during the inauguration, Bakare emphasized that the Camp Court is not merely punitive but corrective, aimed at moulding corps members into responsible citizens throughout their service year and beyond.
In like manner, and to further demonstrate the Scheme’s commitment to an all-inclusive administrative approach, the helmsman of NYSC in the Sunshine State also introduced the Corps Camp Directors; corps members appointed to actively participate in the day to day running of camp affairs.
The Corps Camp Directors have been entrusted with key responsibility of acting as a go-between the management and corps members, including safeguarding the welfare of their colleagues.
They are equally charged to maintain security and discipline, ensuring proper maintenance of camp facilities, and facilitating conflict resolution to sustain a harmonious environment.
While highlighting the vital role of the Corps Camp Directors, the NYSC boss stated that the introduction of Corps Camp Directors was a deliberate step to empower corps members and instilled in them leadership and management skills.
Additionally, they are to serve as instrument of peace, fostering communication, mutual respect, and teamwork.
She, therefore, charged the newly inaugurated Corps Camp Directors to discharge their duties with a strong sense of responsibility, fairness and commitment to the ideals of the NYSC.
In her closing remarks, the State Coordinator reiterated the NYSC’s core values of discipline, patriotism, and service, encouraging all corps members to imbibe these principles throughout the orientation period and beyond.
The inauguration of both the Camp Court and the Corps Camp Directors signals a renewed focus on inclusive leadership and discipline, which are critical for a successful and impactful orientation exercise.
