Tension gripped Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State, following the gruesome murder of a popular musician, Prince Ogo Omoge
The tragic incident occurred around in the evening of April 17, 2025 along the Ayeka/Igodan-Igbokoda expressway, leaving residents in shock and disbelief.
It was gathered that the deceased, who was the grandson of the legendary music icon, the late Comfort Omoge was fatally attacked to death during a confrontation between him and a scavenger over an undisclosed matter
A source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the said altercation escalated into violence, resulting in the assailant using a dagger to slit the victim’s throat.
According to the source, the argument escalated into a violent confrontation and the assailant brought out a dagger and cut the throat of the deceased.
“There was a minor disagreement between Prince Omoge and the scavenger. What started as a small issue quickly spiraled out of control,”
“He was brutally killed, and the attacker fled the scene immediately afterward. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead by medical personnel,” the source explained.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Command, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that a suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident occurred on April 17, 2025. One suspect has been arrested and is currently being held in custody,”Olayinka said
Meanwhile, In a swift response to a tragic incident, Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government area, Andrew Ogunsakin has engaged with local leaders, including representatives from the Hausa/Fulani community, traditional rulers, and youth groups and the discussions have reportedly fostered a commitment to peace among residents.
Ogunsakin confirmed it in a statement made available to newsmen that a coordinated effort of the residents in area with security agencies has led the arrest of a suspect, identified as Machido Abubakar.
The Chairman praised the rapid response of security operatives, who were able to locate and detain the suspect within hours of the incident. He reassured the community of his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
Acknowledging the emotional turmoil caused by the incident, Ogunsakin urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasising the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, promising them support in their pursuit of justice.

Omoge's grandson death: Ondo Police begins probe
The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the tragic death of Prince OgoOluwa Omoge, grandson of the late music icon, Comfort Omoge.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest on Monday, stating that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
“I can confirm to you that the suspect is in our custody in the SCID in Akure for further investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Omoge,” Ayanlade said. “The suspect will definitely face the law and justice will prevail in the case.”
It will be recalled that the deceased was fatally attacked to death during a confrontation between him and a scavenger over an undisclosed matter which occurred on Friday along the Ayeka/Igbokoda Expressway in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The incident has left residents of Okitipupa in shock and mourning, with many expressing disbelief over the senseless act.
The police however have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue
