The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has charged the members of the service corps to break all barriers capable of hindering them from attaining their potential through Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
To this end, the State Coordinator admonished them not to jettison what they have started in camp and impored them to focus more on post-camp training so that the NYSC would celebrate their exploits during the service year and when they eventually got into the larger society.
The NYSC team lead in Ondo State made the statements while drawing curtains on the SAED activities for the 2024 Batch 'C' (Stream 1 ) orientation course held inside the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
Bakare, who was highly motivated and impressed with the achievements of the corps members in short a time, said that SAED was primarily designed to reduce the rate of unemployment in the society and give a new lease of hope to graduate youths who looked into the future with a lot of skepticism.
"I am happy with the conduct of my gentlemen corps members as they had shed the toga of arrogance some of them exhibited when they registered on camp and had embraced the Skill they convincingly believed will propel them to heights reserved only for those who dare to be different".
She said that the experience and testimonials of the serving and ex-corps during the flag-off ceremony two weeks earlier and expression of interest during the hands-on training were enough confirmation that SAED is not a scam but a lifeline that will lift corps members from grass to grace.
"You are not a failure, as the steps you have taken today will definitely assist you to surmount whatever challenge that may come your way in the larger society" she advised.
The NYSC Ondo State boss acknowledged the sacrifices made individually and collectively by all the Trainers/Facilitators for shelving other pressing issues to come and impact on the corps members.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Assistant Director/Head, SAED, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu praised the ingenuity of the corps members, saying that their competitive spirit is astonishing.
The Head of SAED who appreciated the State Coordinator for creating a conducive and enabling environment for the Branch to build the entrepreneurial skills in corps members, equally thanked all the camp officials for showing commitment to the programme, which the members of the service corps leveraged upon to build their capacity.
Pastor Dawodu commended the corps participants for their enthusiasm and dedication during the in-camp training, and equally emphasised the importance of persistence and continuous training, which, according to her would ultimately lead to mastery of chosen skills.
The ceremony featured an exhibition as well as vibrant display of skills, which included but not limited to Tailoring, Food Processing and Baking, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Cap and Wig making, Shoe production and Hair-dressing.
Additionally, a Public Speaking segment saw corps members delivering compelling speeches on diverse topics, displaying their confidence, eloquence and critical thinking skills.
