The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has told corps members to see their posting to places of primary assignment as a divine call to impact positively on their host communities.
The State Coordinator made the statement at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, while debriefing the 2024 Batch 'C' (Stream ) corps members.
Bakare, who praised the members of the service corps for their disciplined disposition during the period of the orientation course, urged them to maintain the tempo throughout the service year.
She advised them to be humble and respectful wherever they find themselves, saying that humility will open many doors of opportunities, which their certificates may not open for them.
She informed the corps participants on the extant policy of addressing the Press or posting NYSC activities on social media, stating that only the Director General or his accredited representatives are qualified to do so.
The NYSC Ondo State boss charged them to be conversant with their immediate environment, especially during the festive period, while appealing to them to keep the contact numbers of both their Local Government Inspectors as well as security agencies handy, and get in touch with any of them in case they face security challenges.
The Coordinator reminded them to cut their journeys short and continue the following day if they could not get to their destinations by 6 pm.
"Gentlemen corps members, NYSC has been re-emphasising on the need for you to avoid night journey. We have solid arrangements with our stakeholders which include the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force as well as religious bodies such as the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF), National Association of Catholic Corpers (NACC) and Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN) to accommodate corps members who are on transit by safeguarding their precious lives".
"It is pertinent to inform you that we have Corps Lodges and other residential buildings occupied by corps members in all the eighteen (18) Local Governments of the state. Kindly avail yourselves of this window, and ensure that you consider your safety first above any other consideration. We want you alive and do us a favour by taking all preventive measures to stay alive and safe".
The NYSC helmsman in Ondo, the Sunshine State encouraged the members of the service corps to be conversant with the NYSC Act and Bye-Law so that they would know the appropriate steps to take whenever there is need to do so.
While wishing them a fulfilling service year, she promised that she would, alongside other management staff, visit them at their various places of primary assignment and host communities during the service year.
Highlight of the debriefing exercise was the presentation of Letter of Commendation to the three Corps Camp Directors as well as the cash prize to the Best Dressed Corps Member for week three.
