The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has charged all Heads of Assignments to see all challenges as surmountable, and implored them to tackle all difficulties as a team.
The State Coordinator made the charge in her address when she presided over the first Steering Committee meeting at the ongoing 2024 Batch 'C' (Stream 1) orientation course.
Bakare, who was full of appreciation to majority of the camp officials for the synergy which has kept the camp going smoothly and successful, said that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the tempo is sustained.
She appealed to the participants at the meeting to always look out for the best of the corps members, as that is the primary responsibility of all the camp officials, while she insisted that security and welfare of members of the service corps should not in any way be compromised.
The NYSC Ondo State boss requested the undivided attention of all camp officials during programmes and activities, saying that it formed part of the code of conduct for the orientation course exercises, which they were expected to adhere strictly to.
"We should all live by examples, as this must be our guiding principle if we must succeed. Let us be at the forefront of every policy assignment so that the corps memberswill see us as disciplined and highly committed personalities who would rather be with them, than leave them alone".
She hinted the possible visits of distinguished personalities to the camp, and urged everyone to be up and running, while reminding them that failure to adequately plan for assignments is an invitation to embarrassment which everyone must guide against.
The Camp Director, Mr. Kehinde Oyeniyi Lawal reviewed the activities of the first week, and lauded everyone for putting up superlative performances which resulted in the good outing recorded so far.
Lawal, while appealing to the Steering Committee members to step down the outcome of the meeting with their subordinates and support staff, advised members to build intimacy that is devoid of master/servant relationships with one another.
Other Heads gave brief on their activities while both the Resident Officer 1, Mr. Adeniyi Opeyemi, as well as the representative of the Director, NYSC Southwest Area Office 1, Mr. Kunle Suleiman scored the camp administration high on all areas but said that there could still be improvement
In her closing remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare thanked everyone for their useful observations and contributions, saying that no one has the monopoly of knowledge or an island on his/her own.
The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has advised corps members to participate healthily in sports and shun whatever may bring hatred or unhealthy rivalry.
The State Coordinator offered this advice when she flagged-off the Games and Sports activities for the 2024 Batch 'C' (Stream 1) orientation course.
Bakare, who told corps members that sports have become a global language where mere friendship have now become basis for international diplomacy and cross-border relationship, admonished them to exhibit true spirit of sportsmanship on the field of play.
"As we commence the Games and Sports activities today, I want to admonish each and everyone of you to come together in the true spirit of love and unity to preach the oneness and unity across all the geopolitical zones".
She charged them to let their coming together reflect the central objectives of the National Youth Service Corps, which according to her, centred on unity and integration, while encouraging them to let their friendship become a foundation for lasting relationships.
The NYSC Ondo State boss disclosed that sports, is an antidote to various health challenges, and implored them to embrace the investment made by NYSC management to improve on their health by actively participating in either indoor games or outdoor sporting activities.
"On our own part, we shall continue to work assiduously towards ensuring that the bond created during the Games and Sporting activities is replicated in other camp activities" she announced.
The sports-loving Coordinator acknowledged the importance of Supporters Club, and charged the members of the service corps who are known to be die hard sporting fans to give their best support in a friendly manner as the entire camp looks forward to it.
The Head of Games and Sports Committee, Mrs. Martha Iziengbe Ihenyen appreciated everyone for the massive support which made the opening ceremony colourful.
Ihenyen, who is an Assistant Director/Head, Community Development Service (CDS) informed everyone that her committee has put everything in proper perspective as the participants had gone through medicals ahead of the commencement of the activity.
In the Volleyball opening match, number 10 platoon started on a promising note and handed over two straight sets win to number 1 platoon while in the football game, it took number 9 platoon extra effort to dispatch number 2 after the game ended in 2:2 draw. The game eventually ended in penalty shoot out of eight goals to seven goals in favour of number 9 platoon.
