The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council says the call for redeployment of Ondo State Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs Toyin Babalola 10 days to governorship election is ridiculous.
Mr Banji Okunomo, Spokesman of APC Campaign Council stated this while reacting to the alleged call by a group, Credible and Transparent Election, at press conference on Wednesday in Okitipupa.
Okunomo accused the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as mastermind behind the call for the redeployment of the REC.
The spokesman noted that the call for Babalola´s redeployment began when Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, raised a false alarm about the REC´s state of origin during one of PDP´s rallies in the state.
Okunomo said that INEC as an electoral umpire had since cleared the air on the REC´s state of origin before deploying Babalola to Ondo State.
He, however, urged the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) to avoid being used as tools in the hands of politicians.
He said that the PDP was jittery and desperate because of its imminent defeat in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo.
“It is clear, from all indications that the PDP is desperate and jittery, otherwise, they will not be hiding under a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) to call for the redeployment of Babalola.
“INEC is Babalola´s employer and her resume is in their possession, so, if the electoral body has come out to say that she is not an indigene of Ondo State, ” he said.
Okunomo berated the PDP for being the only political party making baseless comments about the REC, while other political parties and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), have all passes vote of confidence on the REC.
“It is unfortunate that the PDP think that they can successfully distract serious-minded people from important things by making unsubstantiated claims, ” he said.
He described the APC governorship candidate and incumbent governor of the state as a popular choice, whose productive governance in the last ten months has endeared him to the hearts of Ondo electorate.
A political debate organised by Channels Television and anchored by Seun Okinbaloye in Akure on Nov. 2, saw Aiyedatiwa of APC and Agboola Ajayi of PDP reeled out their developmental programmes. (NAN)
