Group alleges Ondo UNIMED Acting CMD, Dr. Gbala for diverting patients from Govt hospital to his private hospital in Ondo town

A concerned group known as Ondo State Elegant Youth Forum (OSEYF), has alleged the Acting Chief Medical Director of the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Michael Olumide Gbala for diverting patients from government hospital to his private hospital in Ondo town, calling for his immediate removal by the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

In a release made available to newsmen in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, the President of the group, Comrade Julius Awayin Asonja (Sir Special), lamented several gross misconducts and Illegalities alledgedly paperated by Dr. Gbala, calling on Governor Aiyedatiwa to investigate his office.

Comrade Asonja alleged that Dr. Gbala is operating a full-fledged private hospital with the name - "Precious Specialist Clinic and Fertility Center", located at No. 20, Road 3, Yemisi Akintewe street, Laje Road, Ondo City along UNIMED hospital road.

"Following the medical regulations and laws, a government employed Doctor is not permitted to own a private hospital let alone admitting patients in his private hospital. However,  our investigation revealed that Dr. Gbala is running the following services in his private hospital, medical and surgical operation, paediatric, Dental, antenatal Service, fertility treatment, Laboratory, Colposcopy, Ultrasound scan, Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, Egg etc to the detriment of government hospital where he's acting as CMD.

"As a government employed Doctor, you are only permitted to have a consulting clinic not a full-fledged hospital."

It would be recalled that same Dr. Gbala was alleged by Secret Reporters on July 28th, 2020 for training fake nurses in his private clinic in a publication titled: "Health/Doctor's Mess: Chairman Medical Adversory Committee UMSTH, Michael Gbala trains fake Nurses in Private Clinic at Ondo."

Secret Reporters alleged that Dr. Gbala's illegal actions came to fore when one of his staff, Abayomi Funke uploaded a post of pictures of 3 females dressed as Nurses who were presented with certificates by Dr. Michael Gbala.

In the same manner, Dr. Gbala posted on his facebook page on July 27th, 2020, with this caption "it was a celebration galore in Precious Specialist Hospital yesterday as some of our students graduated, you shall use the certificate for something better in Jesus name, Congratulations once again"

"Considering all the facts above, we are calling on the Governor to investigate the activities of the CMD and ensure justice is done so that it will serve as a deterrent to others Doctors who using their selfish interest to destroy government owned Hospitals.

However, if the illegal perpetrations of Dr Gbala are not being investigated and curtailed as a matter of urgency, the it's obvious that the progress of UNIMED hospital will be threatened and eventually drag the integrity of Governor Aiyedatiwa-led administration into the mud."

Finally, our group at Ondo State Elegant Youth Forum wishes to appreciate Governor Aiyedatiwa for his quick intervention and prompt approach to restore life back to the general hospital in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State after our group had raised alarm about the deplorable conditions of the hospital. Definitely, we shall continue to advocate for better Ondo State, especially in the health sector for the proper healthiness of the good people of Ondo State."

  1. Politics have been said to be a dirty game, I hardly believe this until I read through this false publication by those I feel do not want the good of the state as well as trying to tarnish the good intentions of the governor who has in his divine wisdom appointed Dr Gbala as the Acting CMD of the hospital that was heading for comatose until the emergence of the acting CMD. Ask an average staff of the hospital today about the turnaround development within the period of 6 months and you will be surprised to know that Dr Gbala has been a blessing. I don't want to believe that this is not the hand work of those who are bent to occupy a position for thier benefit and selfish interests. It is laughable to read that the CMD divert patients to his private hospital when it the same CMD that have put a lot of watertight policies in place to check mate sharp practices which have been able to yield positive dividends in the area of IGR. I am now convinced that it I true that when you fight corruption in Nigeria, corruption must surely fight back. This is a testimony that corruption is fighting back. We never have it it so good since the establishment of the teaching hospital. The staff welfare has been prioritised, imprest that have eluded many of the HODs and unit heads have been restored. Junior staff enjoy free shuttle from Lipakala to and fro the hospital at resumption and closing time. House officers and doctors have been employed to bridge the gap of those who have left. This is share mudslinging and a bid to call dog a bad name in order to hang it. Although I know that the tree that bears fruit attracts attack, people will throw stones and all assorted weapons in order to bring it down. I work at the teaching hospital and I have a feeling and first hand information than the junk writer who is doing the dirty bidding of his paymaster. This baseless story belongs to the heap of junk.

  2. I can't stop but to laugh at this laughable publication from an idle hand who is all out to do the bidding of his paymaster. Is it not laughable that a man could descend so low to fabricate lies from the pit of hell without any substantial evidence? I have expected the writer to come out with a name of one single patient that was diverted to a private hospital on the instruction of the acting CMD, unfortunately none. Playing dirty politics or trying to enter a house through the backdoor or window will not help. A fine journalist should have armed himself with substantive evidence to back up his story instead of seeking a cheap popularity by sheer blackmailing. An average worker in the hospital knows that we never have it so good in the history of UNIMEDTH until the acting CMD came on board. We are enjoying growing traffic flows of patients with quality services in line with global standards. Many policies put in place have tightened up all leakages such as diversion and lackadaisical attitude of the past which have helped us to grow up our IGR. Staff welfare have been prioritised, imprest is paid as at when due. This write up is a mere diversion and I think the government should just treat it as one of those hungry write up from a hungry man

  3. The information above is totally false and not valid at all. It is better to investigate and authenticate any information before you publish it. This news forum should rather be known for rumors caster and not news caster. You even sited a law that doesn't support your false acquisition. Precious clinic and not precious hospital. I am one of the resident doctor in department of Obstetrics and Gynecology which is the Primary department of Dr. Gbala (CMD). If you have any other information against him....you can bring it up rather than this totally wrong information without any little element of truth.

  5. This is a cleverly orchestrated lie,all i see here is putr hatred for a man who has sacrificed all he had to making sure the teaching hospital over which he presides succeeds, ever since he became the CMAC through to this acting CMD period his private clinic has suffered and been run by other doctors, the clinic does not run all these services claimed, this is pure hatred, the teaching hospital has progressed tremendously since he become acting CMD,he should be given a chance continue the good works.

  6. Some of us work in this hospital ,Dr Gbala we all know do not divert patients. He is too consumed with the work of the hospital and that's why there is so much progress in the hospital in the last 6 months. Creation of new specialist clinics, revamping of Gani Fawehinmi that were hitherto abandoned. Provision of transportation for junior staff etc.
This is bad politics because of CMD position. The 6 months probation ended yesterday and this is a cheap blackmail to taint him for possible substantive appointment

  7. Professionally, I sure that the information concerning diversion of patients to private hospitals by Acting CMD is not correct and it is politically motivated by bring down the shining star that can bring turn around for good to this rebirth hospital.
This is man that has integrity and the fear of God with passion for human life.
Many patients enjoy free treatment from government hospitals and he paid for the bills. He is not money or position minded man. Don’t kill the Joseph of our generation because of position that will not last.
