The sports-loving State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo State, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple has admonished the corps members to ensure that the friendship they established and relationships cultivated during the sporting activities should strengthen the unity of this country in a larger society.
The State Coordinator while giving the admonition before the commencement of the finals of the football and volleyball matches to end the sporting activities for the 2024 Batch 'B' (Stream II) orientation course said that the essence of the three weeks induction programme was to prepare them as ambassadors that will champion the continued existence of Nigeria as one indivisible entity.
Pepple, who mentioned that football and other sports and games have become veritable platform to erase the agelong misconceptions in practice among the constituents that made up the country, saying that the youths have energy and pragmatism to carry the torch of unity rather than being ethnic jingoists.
According to the Coordinator, NYSC has produced great men and women in the sporting fields who have represented the nation and won many laurels, and charged them to continue to showcase their talents after the orientation course, as they may be charting new path that will lead to becoming world sports stars.
Earlier, the Head of Sports and Games, Mr. James Olukayode Amusan expressed his gratitude to the State Coordinator and everyone who ensured that sports and games were conducted in a manner suggestive of building a legacy and lasting relationships.
Amusan, who is holding the assignment for the first time in Ondo State, praised the sponsors for heeding their call for support while at the same time acknowledging the efforts of the Camp Director, Mrs. Martha Ihenyen for facilitating the sponsorship.
The Head, who is also the Assistant Director in charge of Corps Inspection and Monitoring lauded the comportment and the discipline displayed by corps members throughout the period of sporting activities, saying that members of the service corps have truly imbibed the core values of the noble Scheme.
At the end of the final matches, number 3 platoon defeated number 7 by two sets to one in the volleyball category while the number 10 platoon came third.
In football, number 5 platoon showed their superiority by thrashing number 10 platoon there unreplied goals.while number 3 platoon could not reignite what they them the trophy in volleyball, and settled for third position.
The event was supported by the NYSC Musical and Parade Band, who entertained the camp community with their dexterity and professionalism while members of the playing platoons behaved reminiscent of Super Eagles Fans Club with their melodious rendition and massive support.
