We'll develop grassroots by constructing access roads to farms --- Ondo Govt assures




Ondo State Governor, yesterday flagged-off the grading of 25km Rural Farm Road at Benin Owena Multipurpose Dam and 200 hectares of land for vegetable plantation  with irrigation system in Igbara Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area of the State.

While performing the flagged-off, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor to the Governor on Agric and Agribusiness Mr Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, said it was in line with the commitment of the present administration under the leadership of Luck Orimisan Ayedatiwa to the development of the grassroots and ensuring food security by constructing access roads to farms.

Mr Akinsola, who noted that the grading of the road would pave the way for farmers to bring their farm produce to the people, promised that the state government will continue to embark on more developmental projects for the benefit of the people of the state, especially at the grassroots.

His words", We are here to clear this important road because of the various farms along this axis, and also because of the vegetable plantation which will cover about 200 hectares of land to empower our youths. 

"This is like getting the road done and getting the people in the area to feel the presence of the government. About 500 youths have already shown interest in getting involved in the vegetable plantation." 

He therefore, emphasised the need for all stakeholders to take ownership of the projects, stressing the importance of proper supervision of the grading of the  rural road.

Also Speaking,  the Chairman, Sunshine Youth Agricultural Empowerment Association, Ondo State, Mr Femi Ilesanmi Eniola, commended the government for yielding to the yearning and aspirations of the people in the local government. 

He therefore promised the unflinching support of the people to the present administration.

Also speaking, the technical Adviser to the SSA to Gov on agriculture, Mr Olusola Omole, opined that the Ayedatiwa-led administration would continue to support the people of the state especially farmers because of their critical role in the economy of the state.


In his own reaction,  the Chairman Transition Committee, Ifedore local Government, Mr Ajike Oluwasogo Clement emphasized the importance of the youths in agriculture and its value chain if the country wants to have food security.
