INEC Chair, Prof. Yakubu pledges safety, welfare of Corps members

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has reassured the management of the National Youth Service Corps of the security and welfare of Corps members who will take part in the 16th November, 2024 off season Governorship election in Ondo State.

Professor Yakubu made this pledge in Akure during a meeting with the Ondo State Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (IACCES) in Ondo State.

Yakubu, who was on a working visit to Ondo State to ascertain the level of preparation of all stakeholders in the election process in the state paid glowing tribute to the Corps members, noting that there can be no election in Nigeria without the Corps members.

The Chairman, while commending the synergy and effort of security agencies and all critical stakeholders, also appealed for the consolidation and concerted effort among the IACCES members in the protection of Corps members and INEC materials.

While promising to rein in on unscrupulous members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who abandoned the Corps members after election, the Professor advises the Corps members to pay close attention during their training and submit the account number which they use for NYSC allowance to INEC for a seamless payment process.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Ondo State, Mr Sam Amaramiro Pepple, had tasked INEC and the security agencies on the protection and welfare of the corps members during and after the election.

Pepple appealed to the heads of security agencies in the State, who are also members of IACCES  to carry out surveillance at all Corps lodges at all times, even before the election to shore up the confidence of the Corps members.

While commending the INEC Chairman for his commitment to the safety of corps members, he gave assurance of the readiness and patriotism of the service Corps at all times.

The IACCES meeting is part of the preparation by all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and credible election in Ondo State
