The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has asserted that individuals who have skills will never go hungry in the face of economic challenges permeating every parts of the globe.
The State Coordinator made the assertion when she flagged-off the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme for 2024 Batch 'A' (Stream 1) orientation course.
Ani, who admonished the corps members to embrace the intervention which was introduced 12 years ago to reduce the rate of unemployment among graduate youths averred that if graduates enhance their academic certificates, the propensity for youths to go to streets will reduce greatly.
"Distinguished Guests and Corps Members, I have a strong conviction that if corps members who are mobilised and deployed to all the states of the Federation can downplay pride and embrace skills that will enhance their economic and financial independence, then NYSC would have achieved a lot".
She continued, 'it is most unfortunate that most of our graduate youths rather than embrace the opportunity the NYSC management in her ingenuity introduced 12 years ago to reduce the unemployment rate, they believe they can wangle their way out".
The NYSC Ondo State boss charged the members of the service corps to be conscious to safeguard their future like the biblical wise man who built his house on a solid foundation and when the whirlwind came, the house stood strong as a result of the decision he took.
"NYSC has become a prophet that foretells the future. When the programme was established in March 2012, the economic trajectory was not this challenging but NYSC through its well orchestrated programme and dynamism came up with SAED which has changed the fortunes of those who made hay while the sun shines".
She said that NYSC management will continue to create a level playing ground for all the corps members who desire to take advantage of the establishment of the programme to better their lots.
In his opening remarks, the Assistant Director/Head, SAED programme, Mr. Olugbenga Justus Adefehinti admonished the corps members to key into the vision of the Scheme.
Adefehinti, while introducing some of the skill subsets to the corps members intimated them on the need to follow their instinct and passion when picking a skill or vocation.
The opening ceremony had the introduction of some Trainers/Facilitators to the corps members while a playlet to drive home the importance of SAED was played by selected SAED Vanguard.
