The trio of Olufisoye Adenitan of Positive FM Radio Nigeria, Akure, Saheed Ibrahim of Owena Press Limited and Juliet Buna of Crest FM have been selected for the Kwame Karikari Fact-Checking Fellowship for West African journalists.
The trio in 2022, won the Best Journalist Award in radio, print and television categories respectively at the Ondo State NUJ Professional Award ceremony.
The prestigious fellowship is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and named after a Professor of Journalism and founder of Media Foundation for West Africa, Prof. Kwame Karikari.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Dapo Olorunyomi the fellowship would provide with valuable insights to accountability journalism and opportunity to engage in a rigorous training that would be conducted by top-class faculty and professionals.
The four-day training preceding the six month fellowship began on Monday February 26, 2024.
Journalists from Anglophone West African countries, who typically focus on day-to-day breaking news, will acquire the ability to seamlessly integrate information fact-checking and verification into their reporting through specialized training, close mentoring, and editorial support
