The Provost, Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Ibadan, Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo, has urged the newly-admitted students of the college to maintain balance between their studies and social life to achieve their academic goals.
Oyewo stated this during the matriculation of the students admitted for the 2023/2024 academic session on Tuesday in Ibadan.
She also enjoined the students to maintain diligent planning, effective time management, note taking and self-development, adding that they should also ensure critical reasoning in evaluating and analysing issues.
The provost advised them not to read only, but to also acquire knowledge and service-rendering skills that would help them in future.
“Remember that you were admitted to the college as an individual and you will graduate as an individual.
“So, don’t join the multitude to do evil, as you will be held solely responsible for all your actions.
“Take time to read the handbook of code of conduct given to you because in this college, we have zero tolerance for unruly behaviours and disobedience to the rule of law.
“Be determined to make your parents and guardians proud; keep hope alive and never forget that the step you have taken by being here is a stepping stone to achieving greatness in life.
“We are always proud of our products; don’t let us down and let’s be proud of you at the end of your studies,” she said.
According to her, the institution, which she described as the foremost college of health technology in Africa, has produced skilled healthcare professionals who have made indellible marks in the country’s healthcare delivery.
Oyewo expressed appreciation to Gov. Seyi Makinde for his support and for providing a conducive teaching and learning environment for the college.
She also commended the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, for her support and the institution’s governing council for steering the college in the right direction.
Earlier, the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Dupe Ayoola, urged the students to always abide by the rules and regulations of the college, while maintaining peace at all times.
“Make sure you shun cultism and other social vices. The environment has been made conducive for your learning; so take the advantage of that,” Ayoola said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 200 students took the matriculation oath.
Some of the new students, who spoke with NAN, pledged to abide by the college’s rules and regulations during the period of their studies. (NAN)
