The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has described the youths of Nigeria as an indispensable and crucial invaluable assets to the development of the nation.
The Governor who was represented by the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke stated this at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin while delivering his address during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch C stream 1 Corps members mobilised to Oyo State and their counterparts dislodged from Lagos State.
Makinde described National Youth Service Corps as the only credible platform through which vibrant young graduates contribute to the economic growth and development of the nation.
He commended the Scheme for being a complement in socio-economic and political development for over five decades. He emphasized that the Scheme has in no doubt contributed immensely to all sectors of the economy.
He harped on the alarming unemployment rate battling Nigerian graduates and therefore encouraged Corps members to enthusiastically redirect their focus towards Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program designed by the management of NYSC to reduce the ever increasing youths unemployment.
He enjoined Corps members to obey camp officials and actively participate in all camp activities which is targeted at making them more productive for national interest.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration towards continuous provision of adequate welfare and security for Corps members. He equally encouraged them to integrate freely and peacefully with the people of Oyo State whom he described as hospitable, loving and caring.
Earlier in her address the Chairperson Oyo State NYSC Governing Board who doubles as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports and represented by the Director, Youth Development, charged Corps members to remain resolute on building a great nation.
“Let me remind you at this juncture that, no country of the world is free of trials and economic challenges.
Therefore, the current economic and few other challenges confronting our nation at the moment is a test of our patriotism and loyalty. It is our responsibility to play our parts, re-direct our thinking positively, coordinate our mindset progressively to rescue our country and position it appropriately to its giant state among the comity of nations. Let us remain resolute on building a nation that works for all”. She said.
The State Coordinator NYSC Oyo State Comrade Odoba Abel Oche in his welcome address appreciated the State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde and all other concerned stakeholders for their unrelenting support towards NYSC activities in Oyo State.
He advised Corps members to always respect the diverse nature of our country and take advantage of the national service year to learn about other people’s culture.
He also urged them to endure the rigours of the orientation exercise as it was patterned to prepare them for the enormous task of service year.
The event was well attended by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima who administered the oath of allegiance on Corps members, the General Officer Commanding, 2 division, Nigerian Army, Commissioner of Police, the Executive Chairman, Iseyin Local Government, His Royal Majesty, Aseyin of Iseyin land and crops of other dignitaries.
