As sporting activities for the 2023 Batch’B’ Stream two Orientation Course closes, the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State Coordinator, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche has urged Corps members to display the talents in them at the Sports finals, stressing that the NYSC is ready to develop their skills and showcase them to the world.
Comrade Odoba made the statement while addressing the Corps members participating in the sporting activities in both the football and volleyball category for the Sports Finals of the 2023 Batch’B’ Stream two Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.
He mentioned that Sport is a great means of generating wealth for the country while citing the example of Brazil, as a country which has become very wealthy through sports involvement by their younger generation.
The Coordinator admonished the athletes to see the competition as an entertainment, a way of building friendships among one another and not to see it as a do or die affair.
He charged them to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and must not see it as an avenue to create enmity among themselves.
He urged them to enjoy the moment, have fun and make friends among themselves.
In his remark, the Head of Sports and an Assistant Director, Mr. Adeniyi Ade-Ayeni, commended the Corps Members for their doggedness and determination that qualified them to reach the final stage of the Sports competition.
He expressed his gratitude to God that there was no casualty recorded in the keenly contested sports competition and praised the contestants for their comportment and drive throughout the sports activities on Camp.
Drawing the curtain on the sporting activities, the finals of the football and volleyball competitions were played. In the final of the football match sponsored by Bet9ja,number 3 platoon defeated platoon 7 by 7 goals to 6 on penalties following a keenly contested match, while platoon number 8 took third place after defeating number 6 platoon.
In the Female volleyball category sponsored by Airtel Nigeria, Platoon number 5 emerged champions after defeating number 1 platoon by 2-0. In the third place match, Platoon 7 defeated number 8 platoon.
The highpoint of the programme was the presentation of trophies and cash prizes to the winners.
