The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has disclosed that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED programme is an opportunity for graduate youths to reduce poverty in the society.
The State Coordinator made the disclosure at the closing ceremony of SAED activities for 2023 Batch 'B' (Stream II) orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
Mrs. Ani said the opportunity provided for the corps members through highly subsidised rate for in-camp training is to encourage them to take the training seriously which is to assist them in getting to their dream destination.
"Let me remind you that in-camp training was highly subsidised which means that you paid little or nothing to access the service, equipment and other materials needed to enhance your training but be informed that post-camp training is slightly different from this arrangement as you have to go an extra mile to make sacrifice in terms of financial investment and time commitment to achieve that which is good for you".
She hinted that NYSC management has good rapport and understanding with Trainers/Facilitators who will not exploit them as their seriousness and hard work will determine their altitude.
The NYSC Ondo State boss advised those that do not show keen interest in the SAED programme to have a rethink and embrace the post-camp training at their respective places of primary assignment.
"NYSC has taught you how to catch fish and it is now left for you to spread your nets to gather what will stabilise you and make you independent rather than being liability unto others" she said.
The helmsman of the Scheme in Ondo, the Sunshine State promised that the Scheme will not abandon them to their destiny after camp as the management has set machineries in motion to monitor their activities and ensure that their plans materialise.
"I want to admonish you not to hesitate to let your Local Government Inspector and SAED Schedule Officer be aware if you are facing difficulties during post-camp training as this will assist and give them insight into what is happening and how best to tackle it".
Mrs. Ani said that the likes of Otunba Mike Adenuga, Chief Femi Otedola, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chief Tony Elumelu started small but today they are giants in their various endeavours.
"To be like them, I want you to take the bull by the horn so that you will become successful entrepreneurs and employers of labour in no too distant future. Also, do not allow anything to distract you from this pathway to glory".
The State Coordinator thanked everyone for contributing to the solid foundation NYSC has laid for the innovative ideas the corps members have gone through as well as congratulated all those who participated in the competition/exhibition.
The Assistant Director/Head, SAED, Mr. Olugbenga Justus Adefehinti appreciated the Trainers/Facilitators for showing understanding during the in-camp training under a regimented atmosphere.
Corps members showcased their dexterity and expertise in some skill sub set during the competition in which they were awarded various prizes and cash award.
