Discipline is vital, DG tells Oyo corps members




The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig-Gen YD Ahmed has stated that discipline, hard work and humility are some of the invaluable assets corps members require to have a successful service year.

He stated this while addressing 2023 Batch B stream one Corps members deployed to the pacesetter state for their mandatory one year national service, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin.

Brigadier General Ahmed, who was represented by the Director Corps Certification, Mrs Fasakin Bona, implored the corps members to continue to imbibe those virtues that would be instilled in them during the Orientation exercise .

The DG acknowledged the founding fathers of the National Youth Service Corps for their visionary wisdom in mobilizing Nigerian graduates for national integration and unity which is one of the core objectives of the scheme.

Assuring the corps members of the Management's commitment to their overall welfare and development,he enjoined the corps members to embrace Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme of NYSC in order to escape the challenges of unemployment inherent in the country.

The NYSC Boss further urged the corps members to coexist peacefully and not to see themselves as strangers adding that we are all one, even though our tribes and tongues may differ.

He however encouraged them to identity the felt needs of their host communities and make positive impact. 

Emphasizing on their mode of dressing, the Director General urged them to dress properly and avoid defacing of the NYSC uniform. 

"NYSC uniform is noble, do not deface it" he warned.

He equally added that for them to assume their rightful positions as future leaders, they must imbibe discipline,  commitment, resilience and self restraint in their lives.

" NYSC will train your mind and body to comply with societal norms, values and rules" he said.


Speaking earlier at the occasion, the State Coordinator, Mr Odoba Abel Oche expressed his appreciation to the Director General's representative, Mrs Fasakin Bona for her visit to the Orientation Camp to see the corps members.

He announced that the watchword for this set of corps members is "patriotism". He reaffirmed their commitment to serving their father land diligently.




The event was well attended by all the camp officials and collaborating partners.

Highlight of the event was the cultural display by corps members and the inspection of camp facilities.
