The Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon.Sunday Dare has charged corps members to sustain the spirit of patriotism throughout their service year and even beyond.
He gave the charge during the Terminal Parade marking the end of the three weeks Orientation Course for Batch A Stream one Corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.
The Honourable Minister enjoined the Corps members to ensure that they impact and leave an imprint of service and lasting legacies in the various communities where they will be posted for their Primary Assignments.
Speaking further, the Minister encouraged the Corps members to acquire entrepreneurial and extra digital skills in order to be able to survive in this digital economy.
He also gladden the hearts of Corps members by disclosing to them of the on-going efforts to ensure that beyond the monthly allowance that was increased not long ago other allowances such as bicycle and transport are equally increased.
He also promised to do all within his capacity so that there will be improvement in the kits of Corps members.
In his Goodwill Address, the Director General of National Youth Service Corps Brig. Gen. YD Ahmed has urged corps members mobilized to Oyo state for the 2023 Batch A stream 1 orientation course to be good Ambassadors of the Scheme by shunning all acts that can portray NYSC in bad light.He enjoined them to always propagate the message of unity which is the pillar of the Service Corps.
The Director General who was represented by the State Coordinator ,Mr. Odoba Abel Oche expressed his satisfaction over the conduct and behaviour of the corps members throughout the orientation course and hopefully believed they would strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing immensely to the development of the nation.
The D-G commended the corps members for actively participating in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.
He encouraged them to build on what they have learnt "I have received impressive reports on your participation in the entrepreneurial trainings conducted in camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
" I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self-reliance".
He urged corps members to be security conscious at all times as they proceed to their respective Places of Primary Assignment and enjoined them to avoid any act that can endanger their lives such as late night movement, visit to dangerous places and unauthorized journey.
The NYSC Boss assured them of his continuous engagement with the security agencies so as to provide adequate security for corps members as he described their security as his utmost priority.
Speaking on the expected roles of Corps members in the conduct of credible 2023 general elections, the DG pointed out that both local and international communities are hinging their hope of a fair and credible election on corps members based on the excellent performance of their predecessors in the scheme.
He warned the Corps members to handle election duties with a high sense of responsibility and adhere strictly to the rules guiding the conduct of the elections. He further tasked them to be neutral umpires in the huge national assignment.
He however assured them that INEC and all security agencies in the country are committed to ensuring their welfare and safety before, during and after the elections.
