The Coordinator NYSC Oyo State,Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe has tasked the 2022 Batch B Stream ll corps members to promote national unity through cultural integration in the period of their service year.
She stated that culture is a strong instrument for national integration if properly respected and harnessed.
Ogbuogebe gave this charge during the Inter-platoon Cultural Carnival themed" promoting national unity through culture"held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin .
The SC stressed that cultural carnival is a sure integrating factor for it brings people together and gives room for interaction and understanding.
She highlighted further that no nation can make a significant progress or holistic growth and development without peaceful coexistence.
According to her National Youth Service Corps has inputed the cultural carnival in the orientation course content so that corps members can appreciate other peoples culture which creates a sense of unity within the society.
Mrs Ogbuogebe also enjoined the corps members to cherish and respect the culture and traditions of their host communities when they get to their places of Primary Assignments.
She posited that every culture is unique and embedded with our core values, such as respect, hospitality, good conducts, and integration.
She urged the corps members to be united and form a formidable force for Nigeria to stand, progress and be a better place for all to live.She equally charged them to allow indigenous culture to survive so that our identity could be preserved.
At the end of the event the winning platoons were presented with cash prizes, number 4 emerged as the winner representing Igbo culture, platoon 9 representing Igala culture was the first runner up, while platoon 10 representing Ijaw culture came 2nd runner up.
Highlight of the program was the beautiful display of diverse cultures by the corps members.Man'O'war and the Nigerian Army also showcased their professional prowess with beautiful display.
