The Deji and Paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II has asserted that with the qualitative leadership training corps members are exposed to right from the orientation course, it is certain that the country would become great again in no distant future.
The revered monarch made this assertion on Monday afternoon when he hosted the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani and her management team in his palace.
"The leadership training corps members are exposed to and the disciplinal nature of the programme have given them a sense of responsibility which has made them a key component of the project called Nigeria".
The Chancellor of the Federal University of Minna (FUTMINNA) in Niger State disclosed that the Palace is a direct beneficiary of the selfless service the corps members are rendering for the nation, this he attributed to the sound administrative capabilities of the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani.
"The State Coordinator, you are too cerebral to be forgotten or shoved aside. Your outstanding performance since your assumption of duty is a clear testimony of your commitment towards building the youths who are no doubt the future of this great country".
"You have proven to be a highly dedicated administrator and this is the reason why you have packed so many outstanding achievements to your credit within one year of your stewardship and I will want to recommend tenure elongation for you because you still have more aces up your sleeves".
The royal father disclosed that the disciplined nature and compact service delivery exhibited by members of the service corps formed part of the reasons why the Palace retained a corps member after his meritorious service to the nation.
Oba Aladelusi, who is the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers said that the Scheme has consistently been unifying the country since it was established almost fifty years ago.
"I am happy to be associated with this lofty programme which has brought development to all the nooks and crannies of this country. I am impressed that the corps members have remained committed to one Nigeria through their selfless and patriotic service to states and regions other than their own".
The 47th king to rule Akure Kingdom advised the State Coordinator not to rest on her oars but rather strive harder to take the NYSC to enviable height that will encourage the critics to change their perception about the Scheme.
The US trained Architect promised to use his enhanced position as the Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in the Sunshine State to mobilise supports for the Scheme in Ondo State.
While wishing the State Coordinator and her supportive team best in their endeavours, the custodian of heritage of Akure Kingdom who enjoys the special grace of God which culminated in the ultimate honour and ascension to the throne of his forefathers after three attempts said that the Palace is willing to partner the Scheme to promote cultural values in the society.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani appreciated the topmost traditional ruler for all his encompassing support and assistance to the Scheme in the state.
Mrs. Ani said that she visited the palace to receive royal blessing from the highly respected and revered king and to seek his help to encourage all the traditional rulers in Ondo State to prioritise the security and general welfare of corps members serving in their various domains.
The NYSC Ondo State boss used the opportunity of the visit to appeal to the monarch who is well loved by his people to help the Scheme secure befitting office accommodation as the present arrangement within the Federal Secretariat Complex, Igbatoro Road in Akure has become grossly inadequate.
"Your Imperial Majesty Sir, I wish to let you know that the number of prospective corps members that NYSC is deploying to Ondo State is now unprecedented and each time we return from orientation camp, the number of corps members, including the relocated-in ones that we attend to shows that our present accommodation is no longer convenient and conducive for our operations".
The State Coordinator said the Scheme will appreciate landed property it would develop if any structure or building is not readily available.
She equally sought the assistance of the king to impress it upon the Executive Chairmen of the Local Governments to constitute the NYSC Local Government Committee where such has not been in existence as this will help the Council bosses to know their responsibilities to the Scheme in the state.
The representatives of the corps members serving in the state made a gift presentation to the royal father while the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani presented NYSC Act and Sunshine Voice bulletin, a bi-monthly publication of the Secretariat during the courtesy call.
