The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, has described Nigeria as a land of diverse cultures and each with its uniqueness.She said what makes us who we are is our culture.
She implored the corps members to respect other peoples culture and regard the similarities as ingredient for National unity.
" There is real beauty in our diversity " she said.
Ogbuogebe made this call during the 2022 Batch 'A' Stream ll Inter-platoon cultural carnival held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin.
She reminded them of the need to work harmoniously and not to discriminate against any culture as no one chose his or her origin.
"Nobody is going to fix Nigeria for us , we have to do it ourselves. Our culture is our pride,let's be proud of it" .
The State Coordinator who equally encouraged corps members to embrace inter-tribal marriages pointed out that it would promote unity among Nigerians of diverse cultural backgrounds.
She further said the introduction of cultural carnival during the orientation exercise was to foster unity and promote the spirit of National consciousness.
"Use the period of your National Service to promote cultural integration" she urged them.
The Carnival witnessed corps members in their colorful and multi diverse regalia, exhibiting and making presentation on platoon basis , showcasing the beautiful cultures of Nigerians.
The carnival also witnessed colourful parade by the Man 'O' War and Military instructors.The climax of the event was the presentation of prizes to the winning platoons. Number six platoon emerged the overall winner while platoons one and two came second and third respectively.
