Muslim Faithfuls have been charged to to have attitudinal change to curb the challenges of unity confronting Muslims within the country.
The Chief Imam of Nuwaru-Deen Mosque, Dr Nurain Dindi gave the charge at the first Federation of Muslim Womens' Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN's Ramadan and breaking of fast Lecture, held in Abuja at the weekend.
Dindi, who presented a paper titled "Challenges of Muslim Unity in Nigeria', said developing attitudinal change will help the Muslim Ummrahl to get out of the predicament of disunity, rancour, unhealthy rivalry and tribal discrimination against fellow Muslims.
Highlighting several challenges confronting Muslim Unity in Nigeria, he said the intellectual difference of opinions should not be considered as a dispute, but should not be discussed in the streets or during Friday sermons.
This, he noted should be discussed in the universities and other centers of knowledge.
" Therefore, instead of condemning one another, calling names and killing fellow Muslims, we must follow whichever Muslim school of thought we want to follow but respect other,s" he stated.
Other challenges he mentioned, include heterogenous society, lack of genuine Islamic brotherhood, substitution of oneness of Allah, mixture of culture with Islam, materialities attitude and sectarianism.
Also, the Guest lecturer, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahya who is the Director of liaison service, Islamic Education Trust Minna, in a lecture titled " Significance of Ramadan in the life of Muslim and its benefits', described Ramadan as the month of mercy for mankind.
He said the month is beneficial to maintain constant remembrance of Allah, repentance to Allah, observance of many voluntary prayers and behaving in the best way of controlling his tongue and attitude among several others.
He urged Faithfuls to use the month to prepare for the thereafter and everlasting salvation.
Earlier, in her welcome speech, the FOMWAM Amirah, Alhaja Rafiat Idowu Sanni, while reeling out several achievements through the thematic areas, said the association has been able to build schools in all the local government areas of the country, hospitals in some states, building a nursing school and raising children as well as supporting orphans and widows.
She called for the assistance of all on the building of the Islamiya school at the National complex in Abuja.
According to the National Amirah, the association was formed in 1985 by elderly women who saw the need to bring women together under the umbrella to be able to speak with one voice on matters that has to do with women and the children.
She noted that the association has since its formation, trend beyond Nigeria to United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Liberia and the United State of America.
The achievements made, Sanni stressed, were through the association's thematic areas in health, education, capacity building and training, humanitarian services among few others.
