The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has urged Corps members to use the period of their service year to promote National unity and integration.
He asked them to seize the opportunity of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship,peace and harmony to actualize the vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.
Speaking through the State Coordinator,NYSC Oyo State Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe during the swearing-in ceremony for 2022 Batch 'A' stream ll Corps members, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin, Oyo State,Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their various academic programmes which qualified them to be mobilized for National Service.
He informed them that the Orientation Exercise is the first Cardinal programmes of NYSC which is aimed at introducing them to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme and encouraged them to make good use of the opportunity by participating actively in all camp activities.
General Ibrahim also implored the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunity for self employment being offered through the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
He assured them that the NYSC Management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme.
The Director General equally use the medium of the Swearing-in Ceremony to appeal to the appropriate authorities to provide the necessary enablement for the actualization of the proposed NYSC Trust Fund.
According to him" It will boost our Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme aimed at empowering Corps members for self reliance and wealth creation."
While expressing his profound gratitude to the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, for their continued support towards safe and efficient conducts of the Orientation Exercise within the context of the New Normal, he advised all Course participants to adhere strictly to all the non pharmaceutical safety protocols.
Earlier in the day, in a virtual meeting with corps members and camp officials,the Director General urged the Corps members to alow the oath of allegiance, which they were about to swear into guide their conducts during and after their service year.
He also encouraged them to get familiarized with the NYSC Act and NYSC Bye-Laws so as not to run foul of the law.
The DG seriously warned them against any shameful act that can bring the image of the scheme into disrepute rather they should demonstrate the spirit of diligence, patriotism and discipline during their service year and beyond.
He added that they should not put themselves in harm's way by engaging in night journeys or travelling without permission.
Highlight of the event included; Swearing an Oath of Allegiance as administered by the Honourable Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Murktar Abimbola who was ably represented by Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima.
Newsline NG however gathered that a total number of 2,380 corps members comprising of 834 males and 1546 females were posted to Oyo state for thier mandatory one year service year.
