BREAKING: Rugipo lifts ban on Union activities

Following the intervention of the Ondo State Government, the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, has lifted ban it  placed on Unionsʼ activities in the Institution.

It will be recalled that the management, on the approval of the Governing Council, had on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, proscribed the activities of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) over planned industrial action by the Unions.

The Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Special Duties and Labour Matters, Mr. Dare Aragbaiaye, had meddled into the agelong dispute occasioned by non-payment of workers salaries.

A source at the meeting disclosed to our correspondent that Aragbaiaye asked both the management and unions to sheath their swords.

However, the Institution, lifted the suspension in a circular dated 6th January, 2022, with Ref no: AD/130/VOL.XII/438, signed by its Registrar, Sule Atiku.

The circular reads, “at the tripartite meeting of the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Dare Aragbaye, on Labour Matters, Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo and the Leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), RUGIPO Chapter held on Wednesday 5th January, 2022”

“Presided over by the Special Adviser himself, the above captioned was thoroughly discussed putting into consideration the strike action embarked upon by the Unions under reference and the subsequent suspension order placed on the activities of the Unions by Management, it was resolved that the suspension order be lifted”

“Thus, as decided at that meeting, the suspension order is hereby lifted forthwith”

“It is expected therefore, that the Unions would reciprocate this development by suspending the indefinite strike action embarked upon by them”

“Management, therefore, looks forward to enjoying a robust partnership with the Unions in the New Year”
