The Director, Internal Audit, National Youth Service Corps Scheme, Mr. Leke Abiodun has challenged the corps members to strive to leave lasting positive legacies at their places of primary assignment and host communities.
The Director threw the challenge when he addressed the 2021 Batch 'C' (Stream II) corps members during his visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
Mr. Abiodun said that the members of the service corps should be the agents of change that our society desires.
"My friends in the national service, you should count yourselves lucky to be mobilised and deployed to Ondo. Several of your colleagues desire to be here but could not be and this should be an added reason for you to give it all it takes to ensure that your impact is felt during the service year".
"As you move into the second phase of the four cardinal programmes of this noble Scheme, it is my hope that you will translate into actions all lessons learnt during the regimented orientation course and equally accord respect to the indigenes and the residents of the state and display exemplary characters to all and sundry".
"Humility will get for you what you need to succeed during the service year. Treat every human being with respect and offer yourselves to build the capacity of the school-age children as this will endear you to them by paving way for a cherished relationship which may even be the soft push they need to become successful personalities in life" he said.
Abiodun, who once served in the state as Head, Accounts Branch some two decades ago charged the corps members to look for opportunity that abounds in the state rather than gallivanting around.
"Gentlemen corps members, God has deposited in you unique ability to succeed under any given circumstances and you need to sit down and plan because the future belongs to those with creative ideas and this can only be achieved if you settle down quickly for service".
"Your academic achievements and certificates possessed have given you broad knowledge of how to tap into the resources available in the face of challenges bedevilling the society. You need to enhance your value by subscribing to Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED programme to make yourself a giant in the business environment".
"You will all agree with me that paid employment which was in the vogue some decades back has become elusive in recent years but the opportunity provided by the intervention established in March 2012 is daily waxing stronger".
The certified Accountant who has worked in several NYSC formations before getting to the peak of his career said that SAED programme will have a meaning to them when serving and ex-corps members shared with them testimonies of what they have benefitted since they embraced the programme.
He hammered on personal security and advised corps participants to desist from visiting flashpoints within their living abode or live flamboyantly in a manner that will make them soft targets.
The Director who is one of the policy makers of the noble Scheme admonished them to cultivate and sustain lasting relationships as this will pay off in the nearest future.
"While wishing you a fruitful and rewarding service year, I want to encourage you to cultivate healthy relationships with each other as this will definitely assist you to get your bearing in the foreseeable future" he concluded.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani told the members of the service corps that the Director, Internal Audit has been a blessing to successive corps members and staff alike nationwide.
The State Coordinator extolled the leadership qualities of Mr. Abiodun, saying that the Scheme will continue to rely on his wise counsel and appealed to the corps members to listen and benefit from his wealth of experience.
The Ondo State NYSC administrator appealed to the management of the Scheme at the Directorate Headquarters through the visiting member of the NYSC family on the urgent need to provide additional hostel accommodation to cater for the ever increasing corps population.
