The Director General NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim (Assoc. Prof, DSS,MTRCN) has charged corps members to strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of our fatherland.
The NYSC boss represented by the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe gave the charge at the Closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch 'C' Stream I Orientation course held at the Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin, Oyo State.
He stated that having undergone various leadership training during the three weeks orientation course, the corps members are expected to have imbibed the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience which would help in fulfilling the objectives of the Scheme.
He also tasked them to contribute to the progress and development of their host communities and the nation at large by embarking on projects that will be meaningful to the socioeconomic life of their host communities.
Ibrahim in his address further enjoined the corps members to perform their duties with diligence, be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Acts/Bye- laws as well as their workplace rules.
The corps members were equally warned against delving into the local politics of the community they find themselves and should always have it in mind that discipline remains a key aspect of their conduct during the service year.
While encouraging the corps members to build on the skills acquired in camp under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, the DG stated that the mastery of their chosen skill can only be achieved if they avail themselves of the Post camp SAED training.
He used the opportunity to remind them of the various access windows to start up loans for the actualization of their business dreams.
He emphasized that the SAED programme initiated by the NYSC management is aimed at empowering corps members and reducing unemployment rate.
On Security, the NYSC helmsman urged the corps members to be security conscious as they proceed to their locations of Primary Assignment.
He further cautioned them against social activities that would make them vulnerable , while also advising them to ensure that their use of social media handles should promote unity amongst people rather than creating ethnic jingoism or peddling fake news.
He then assured the corps members that the Management remains committed to both their security and general welfare.
Gen.Ibrahim equally reminded the corps members on the the need to avoid unauthorized journeys/night trips, adhere strictly to all Covid-19 prevention protocols and avail themselves the opportunities of Covid vaccination. Stating that as declared by the Federal Government that only those vaccinated will be allowed into government offices by December 1st may also apply to them in their PPAs.
Before declaring the orientation course closed, the DG appealed to Corps Employers to always accept corps members posted to them, make necessary provisions for their welfare and monitor them properly to enable them develop their potentials.
A total of 1780 Corps members deployed to Oyo state were equitably distributed to all the 33 Local Goverment areas of the state, to contribute their quota to national development.
