For allegedly impersonating an officer of the Nigerian Air Force, the Ondo State Police Command has dragged a 34- year- old man, Sunday Abe before an Akure Magistrate Court
Abe, is now facing trial before Magistrate O.R Yakubu, on three count charge bothering on impersonation, unlawful possession and forgery.
According to the charge , the defendant committed the offence in June 2, 2020 at about 9:30am , in Akure , in the Akure Magisterial district.
The defendant was also alleged to have had in his possession a Military camouflage uniform, forged Nigeria Immigration Service Identity card with his name and impersonated an officer of Nigerian Air Force.
The offence was said to be contrary to section 465 and punishable under sections 484, 430 and 467 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
However, Sunday pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Augustine Omhenimhen, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file before the next date.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Timi Oguntunwase, did not oppose the adjourned date but prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal term.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. R Yakubu, in her ruling granted the defendant N500,000 bail with one surety in like sum and must be resident in Akure.
He directed the defence counsel to write an undertaking that he would produce the defendant in any adjournment date. While the defendant remain in police custody pending the bail perfection.
Yakubu adjourned till June 23, 2020 for hearing.
All may be heard on the serial fraudster, Olusegun Abe middle age woman, Tinu Areloye has accused him of defrausing her a sum of N530,000, Areloye is a civil defence officer, Ondo State command.
Abe was arrested for impersonating a late Flight officer in the Nigeria Air Force.
According to the lady “I got a land somewhere in Alagbaka, and had problem with some persons threatening to collect the land from me. One day, I saw a sign post next to my land that , “Military Zone, Keep off. This Land belongs to Captain Femi of the Nigeria Army,” including his Kaduna address and phone number.
“I quickly placed a call to the person hoping he will help me and after sometime, he was able to settle the issue.
Subsequently, we became very close. I was happy with the relationship because I felt I have found a higher officer as a friend. And with that kind of rank in the Nigerian Army as a friend, I felt so lucky.
“We got along. sometimes during our friendship he said there was a job offer at the Presidency if I had any one who needed it. He said it will cost N 400, 000.
” I happened to have a sister who was repatriated from overseas and in need of job. So, I quickly contacted him (Abe) He said we should first send her Curriculum Vital before anything, and I was able to raise N380,000 which. I gave him for the job opportunity.
“Few weeks later, he called and said he has been called for promotion to the rank of Major in Damaturu. On his way he was attacked. He sent me a picture socked with blood that I should send him 50,000 naira. I sent it immediately and ever since his phone went off.
“I saw him three months ago along Mother and Child General Hospital in Akure, where I challenged him. That time he was with a rank of a Major and with two officers in uniform. He whom he said were he ADC gave series of excuses that he would be decorated inti his new rank here in 32 Artillery Akure.
“He promised he will pay me back until I saw him on TV as a Flight Lieutenant Abe and I was very happy.
Wife of the suspect, Mrs Keyinde Abe, who sells phone beside Olukayode shopping complex said she knew nothing about her husband’s dubious act.
“I did not know that my husband was into this dubious act. All I do is to go to my shop with out eight months old boy and come back late.
“He is always traveling as I know him to be a businessman. Due to the nature of his business it takes him out of the house at all time.
“I never knew he was in to such disgraceful act,”she explained.
